Senior Federal Prosecutor Vineet Gauri Joins Philadelphia Office with Focus on IP, Cybersecurity, Investigations & White Collar

PHILADELPHIA (June 16, 2025) — Further expanding its national litigation and investigations capabilities, Barnes & Thornburg has recruited former federal prosecutor Vineet “Vinny” Gauri to the firm’s Philadelphia office. With nearly 20 years of experience leading high-stakes federal enforcement matters, Gauri will focus on intellectual property, cybersecurity, investigations, and white-collar matters.
“Vinny’s experience will be invaluable to clients facing growing litigation and investigations challenges,” said Randy Brown, Litigation Department chair. “He brings a rare blend of courtroom savvy, subject-matter depth, and leadership that strengthens our ability to guide clients through their most sensitive matters.”
Gauri, who joins B&T as of counsel, most recently served as Deputy Criminal Chief in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and previously led its National Security and Cybercrime Section. In that role, he oversaw prosecutions and investigations involving terrorism, espionage, cybersecurity threats, and thefts of trade secrets. Gauri also served as a DOJ-designated National Security Cyber Specialist and a Computer Hacking and Intellectual Property (CHIP) attorney.
As an Assistant U.S. Attorney, Gauri tried numerous federal jury trials in cases involving murder and other violent crimes, public corruption, financial and health care fraud, money laundering, and complex tax frauds. Notably, he delivered the government’s opening statement in the high-profile and successful bribery, extortion and fraud prosecution of the then-sitting Philadelphia District Attorney.
Gauri has taught cybercrime, white-collar crime, and trial skills at several law schools. Prior to joining DOJ, he was a partner at a leading intellectual property firm, where he practiced patent and trademark litigation.
Gauri earned his J.D. from the Boston University School of Law and his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Michigan.
