With a background in civil and criminal litigation, Emily has handled sophisticated casework involving healthcare fraud, tax law, regulatory compliance, and other civil and criminal matters involving government programs, demonstrating her ability to craft persuasive legal arguments and effectively manage case preparation. Emily’s experience includes leading investigations, negotiating settlements, and litigating cases involving fraud against state and federal agencies.
As a trial attorney in the DOJ Tax Division’s Criminal Enforcement Section, Emily investigated and prosecuted federal tax crimes. In this role, she worked closely with federal law enforcement agencies, conducted grand jury investigations, and litigated cases in federal courts across the country. Following her time at the Tax Division, Emily served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Middle District of Tennessee, where she handled affirmative civil enforcement investigations. In that capacity, she investigated and pursued cases under the False Claims Act (FCA) and other statutes targeting fraud against the government.
Through this work, she developed significant experience navigating parallel proceedings, including cases involving simultaneous civil, criminal and regulatory components.
Emily’s experience extends to trial work, where she has managed discovery, conducted witness interviews, and litigated cases in federal district courts. Her strong research and writing skills are instrumental in drafting legal memoranda, pleadings, and motions that support her clients’ positions.
In addition to her litigation experience, Emily has cultivated a passion for mentorship and legal education. She has served as a teaching assistant for legal research and writing courses, helping law students refine their written advocacy skills and develop a strong foundation in legal analysis. She continues to leverage her experience in government investigations and civil enforcement to provide high-quality legal counsel and advocacy for her clients.
