Francis "Rocky" Cislak

Associate
Analytical, forward-thinking and focused on finding ways to improve a process or circumstance, Francis “Rocky” Cislak advocates for his clients’ intellectual property interests. He has a deep understanding of how trademarks and copyrights impact a business’ branding and marketing strategy.

Rocky helps compile trademark applications and with gathering data, arguments, and specimens necessary to ensure trademark applications are registerable with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). In doing so, he reviews watch notices for cases of infringement and, if necessary, drafts letters explaining trademark owners’ rights. He also researches applicable trademark and copyright laws to inform clients of their rights and instructs foreign counsel.

During his time as a summer associate with the firm, Rocky created a presentation on biometric privacy data in the U.S. and Europe, which was used to inform judges about the landscape of this new area of law.

Rocky spent six summers working as a unit commander, boys’ athletic director and cabin counselor with Culver Summer Schools and Camps, which gave him opportunities to learn extensive skills. Through those roles, he guided and mentored campers; wrote evaluations for counselors and campers; planned and facilitated athletic events for 430 campers; restructured and implemented a new athletic system to promote fair play and equal opportunity; and facilitated conflict resolution to address issues of unsportsmanlike conduct and other disputes.

Rocky lived in Seoul on a study abroad program focusing on South Korea’s economic history and development while earning his undergraduate degree.
