Gene Yao represents biotech, chemical and pharmaceutical companies in international intellectual property law and regulatory matters. With in-house experience as patent counsel for a major pharmaceutical company, Gene brings an innate understanding of the multifaceted challenges clients face in enforcing their patents on a global scale.
Gene’s practice encompasses all aspects of IP law, including domestic and international patent preparation and prosecution, patent enforcement and litigation, counseling, opinion rendering, due diligence, post-grant patent practice, IP licensing, agreement work and patent portfolio management.
As former senior counsel at Roche Pharmaceuticals, Gene has extensive experience in handling patent issues involving metabolic and cardiovascular diseases, disorder therapies, oncology and central nervous systems. His knowledge of diverse technological areas covers molecule pharmaceuticals, genomics, proteomics, therapeutic antibodies, therapeutic biologics, gene therapies, recombinant DNA, antimicrobial therapies, immunoassays, formulations, pharmaceutical compounding, transgenic animals, diagnostics, personalized health care, medical devices, fertilizers, polymers, cleaning materials and cosmetics.
Gene’s regulatory practice covers pharmaceutical matters such as drug product exclusivities, investigational new drug applications, new drug applications and abbreviated new drug applications, safe harbor, biosimilars, Hatch-Waxman issues and Orange Book patents. He also advises on pharmaceutical life-cycle management and target clearance.
