Hans Murphy advises employers nationwide on managing their workforce relationships and, if necessary, litigating disputes. Practical by nature, Hans strives to find and implement the simplest and most cost-effective solution that accomplishes the client’s distinct business and operational goals.

As an employment counselor, Hans negotiates and drafts employment agreements, confidentiality agreements, and non-compete and non-solicitation agreements. He helps clients create and maintain effective policies and procedures that govern the workplace and also regularly conducts trainings. He also advises employers in disciplining and terminating employees, reductions in force, and ensuring that group terminations comply with state and federal statutes and regulations.

As a litigator, Hans defends employers in claims involving breach of contract, defamation, discrimination, harassment and wrongful discharge. He advocates for employer positions in privately negotiated settlements, arbitration proceedings and hearings, administrative proceedings, class and collective actions, and litigates claims in state and federal courts across the country, from the filing claims through trial and on appeal.

Always at the ready to share knowledge and experience, Hans frequently presents at educational seminars for groups such as the Indiana Chamber of Commerce, the Association of Corporate Counsel, the Society for Human Resource Management, the Indiana Continuing Legal Education Forum, National Business Institute and Lorman. He authored the inaugural 2023 Edition of Indiana Labor and Employment Law for LexisNexis and serves as the editor for Practical Law’s resources on Indiana non-compete laws and trade secrets.
