Jack supports clients through discovery, motion practice, and case preparation, turning complex information into clear, practical guidance. His experience in education and policy equips him to communicate effectively, anticipate challenges, and approach problems creatively. As a student case worker, Jack has experience direct- and cross-examining expert witnesses and defending against motions for summary decision.
Before joining Barnes & Thornburg, Jack served as a teacher through Teach for America. While teaching Algebra during the day, Jack spent his evenings as a policy fellow researching issues such as adult education, education financing, and “inclusive growth” models. As a policy fellow, he honed his ability to simplify complex concepts and craft strategic solutions. He also gained hands-on litigation experience as a summer associate with the firm and as a summer law clerk at the Civilian Board of Contract Appeals in Washington, D.C. During his summer with the firm, Jack worked extensively with the Commercial and White Collar and Criminal Investigations practices during his time, honing his interest and foundation for future appellate work.
During his third year of law school, Jack represented former coal miners suffering from pneumoconiosis (“Black Lung Disease”) in administrative proceedings in front of administrative law judges through Washington & Lee University’s Advanced Administrative Litigation Clinic. As a student case worker, he direct- and cross-examined expert witnesses over issues of presence and causation of pneumoconiosis, defended a motion for summary decision, and worked with medical experts to help build clients’ cases for administrative benefits.
By combining his diverse professional background with a focused approach to litigation, Jack delivers thoughtful, detail-oriented advocacy tailored to his clients’ goals.
