Jason Schultz helps healthcare clients navigate the industry’s ever-changing regulatory environment. He provides counsel on the operational, regulatory and legal challenges facing local, regional and national healthcare providers. Jason is an experienced healthcare lawyer and hospital executive, bringing nearly 20 years of experience in both in-house and private practice settings. He has a particular passion for helping providers adopt emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, telehealth, wearable devices and remote patient monitoring.
Jason counsels healthcare entities on strategic affiliations (transactions), hospital joint ventures, senior living, medical staff matters, government investigations, physician employment, managed care contracting, value-based care, audits, and HIPAA. He also helps clients address issues related to Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement and Anti-Kickback Statute and Stark Law violations.
Jason’s experience as in-house general counsel and chief strategy officer at a multi-hospital health system gives him a unique perspective on representing hospitals and healthcare providers. While in-house, Jason led three hospital campuses, 26 physician office locations, urgent care, three long-term care facilities, a home health entity, a health insurance agency, and ownership interests in multiple health care organizations. He also worked with federal and state officials on advocacy initiatives and successfully lobbied for changes to state telemedicine laws to ensure equal treatment and parity for telemedicine services.
Outside of work, Jason maintains a strong commitment to improving his community and mentoring young lawyers. He is president of the board of directors of Potawatomi Zoo, which has undergone a major strategic expansion over the last several years. He works toward improving mental health and addiction through his board of director position with Oaklawn Psychiatric Hospital. He also served many years as an externship supervisor, mentoring law students in Notre Dame Law School’s Corporate Counsel Externship program.
