Joseph Gergel is passionate about delivering results to his clients through his deep knowledge of the courts and civil practice. Joseph is a motivated problem-solver with a diverse range of experience in civil and criminal matters. 

Familiar with virtually all aspects of pre-trial, trial, and post-trial practice, Joseph has experience conducting in-depth research and drafting critical motions over a wide array of civil matters – both procedurally and substantively. Joseph strives to find effective and positive outcomes for clients, and they rely on him to formulate creative and effective solutions and to provide sound guidance throughout the litigation process.

Prior to joining Barnes & Thornburg, Joseph was a law clerk to the Honorable William P. Johnson, chief judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of New Mexico, where he drafted memorandum opinions and orders and bench memoranda, provided trial support, and performed case management and legal research.

While in law school, Joseph held a summer associate position at a law firm in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He also served as a legal intern at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Mexico and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Indiana. 

Joseph was appointed by the New Mexico governor as the student member on the Eastern New Mexico University board of regents while he was an undergraduate.
