Michael D. Hardy is retired of counsel in the South Bend, Indiana, office of Barnes & Thornburg where he was a member of the Real Estate Department and co-chair of the firm's Financial Institutions Practice Group.

Michael concentrated his practice in the areas of commercial, banking, and real estate transactions, as well as eminent domain and easement acquisitions. He has extensive experience in bank commercial lending and foreclosure actions in addition to pipeline construction and restoration issues.

Active in the local community, Michael served on the boards of the South Bend Chapter of the Izaak Walton League and the Salvation Army's Advisory Council. He has been named on The Best Lawyers in America list for his work in banking and finance law and financial services regulation law. In the 2018 edition, Michael was recognized as a lawyer of the Year by Best Lawyers.

Michael graduated with high honors from the University of South Florida and received his J.D., magna cum laude, from Indiana University School of Law-Bloomington.

In addition to being admitted to practice in the state of Indiana, Michael is admitted before the U. S. District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana, as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit Court.
