Scott Simmonds advises on the strategic development, acquisition and protection of intellectual property portfolios across an array of technologies. He guides businesses in identifying the strengths and opportunities of their portfolios to cultivate enforceable and revenue-generating assets.

Scott prepares and prosecutes patent applications through the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), and advises on portfolio development and management. He also negotiates licensing agreements, conducts freedom to operate analyses and provides due diligence support for mergers and acquisitions.

With prior engineering experience at a medical devices and patient-handling equipment manufacturing company, Scott understands the multidimensional business, staffing and budgeting aspects of developing patentable innovations. He leverages his dual perspective to advise inventors, executives and in-house counsel on strategies to foster novel and highly specific differentiators of their innovations to maximize the value of their patent portfolios.

Scott is a member of the firm’s management committee.
