Whittney A. Dunn

Professional Responsibility Attorney

Whittney Dunn, a professional responsibility attorney, counsels the firm’s attorneys on the ethical challenges and professional issues connected with practicing law. She is a member of the firm’s Office of General Counsel and understands the role that ethics, professional responsibility and loss prevention play in the firm’s operational procedures.

Whittney has spent years working in risk management for legal professionals. Before joining the firm, Whittney worked for The Bar Plan Mutual Insurance Company. In that role, she presented more than 20 hours of lawyer education to hundreds of lawyers annually on the topics of legal ethics, malpractice avoidance, and law practice management. She also audited law firm procedures and provided one-on-one guidance to attorneys regarding appropriate law practice management protocols and legal ethics and professionalism compliance issues.

Whittney has also developed a passion for addressing lawyer well-being issues in the profession, a pursuit that goes hand-in-hand with her work to ensure ethical and professional lawyer conduct. She has been recognized for her lawyer well-being work at the local, state, and national levels.

Notably, she advises Barnes & Thornburg attorneys on appropriate conflict considerations, new matter intake policies, engagement letters, marketing efforts, and other legal ethics and professional responsibility matters.

Dedicated and candid, Whittney can look at an issue from the risk management side and the attorney practice side. She was in private practice before entering insurance and regulatory work, allowing her to lend a knowing and empathetic ear when counseling attorneys about legal ethics and professionalism issues.

Whittney is not regularly admitted to practice in the local courts of Illinois.
